Introduction to the Pangea Conference by Dr. Andrew Weil
PANGEA 2008: New York, NY, USA
November 14-15, 2008
The Pangea 2008 Conference is a multi-track integrative medicine program, offered to all doctors, nurses, allied health professionals, clergy, complementary therapy practitioners, residents, students and others in health care training programs. The two-day program is designed for all those who care for children in therapeutic settings. It will be held at the New York Marriott Downtown in New York City.
Our children, with or without medical needs, are faced with many challenges in this quickly changing and complex environment. Professionals who care for children and are involved in today's healthcare system will need to rely upon supportive, collaborative relationships for the purpose of healing the child. Integrative medicine is a holistic approach to this challenge. It is a three-tiered endeavor. It concerns itself with the body, mind and spirit and their complete interaction within the child. It addresses the issues of procedures and protocols of conventional care with complementary and therapeutic methods. Lastly, it is the human connection; the involvement of a healing team with the child that promotes their health and wellness. Thus, as we attempt to envision;"the best care," the potential for the “whole child” to be treated comprehensively becomes the central purpose.
The Pangea 2008 Conference is a promotion of intentional dialogue, through which we hope to create new partnerships that support research and clinical practice. These conversations will be ongoing, requiring generosity, discovery and collaboration. Pangea provides a forum to discuss research, accepted practices and change, in order to foster comprehensive care for all children.
The esteemed faculty presenting at the conference are dedicated to bridging the gap between information and practice, and to encouraging broader participation and growth of the community. Please join us in this intentional dialogue as we strive for new insights and further the possibility for advancements in pediatric healthcare and wellness.
We invite and welcome your contribution to these important conversations for and about change.
